Frequently Asked Questions

Does the strata need to spend any money to get started? For newer EV-ready buildings, there is no cost to the strata corporation whatsoever. For older buildings requiring retrofit wiring and conduit, those costs are the responsibility of the strata — however EV Nook will guide you through available government incentive programs that can significantly offset the expense. In both cases, there is no ongoing cost to the strata after installation and residents will have the option of Charging as a Service which means no upfront payment for the charger hardware either.

What if only some residents want a charger? Only residents who request a charger get one. There is no obligation on other residents and no shared cost across the strata. Residents who don’t own EVs pay nothing — now or in the future.

What if residents install the charger but have no EV yet? In case they have bought the charger, they can ask their account to be suspended any time they like in which case, they don’t have to pay any usage fees. As for Charging as a Service, the minimum payment applies.

What happens if a resident moves out? If a resident purchased their charger, it stays with the stall and can be transferred to the new owner or tenant. If the resident was on Charging as a Service, EV Nook simply reassigns the charger to the new resident — no strata involvement required.

Do residents need to scan a QR code each time they charge? No — the EV Nook app is built specifically for private charging. Each resident’s charger is assigned to their account at setup and appears in the app automatically. No scanning, no searching for a station. For residents who prefer not to use the app, EV Nook provides a free RFID card — simply tap to start and stop charging, no phone required.

What is the minimum monthly usage commitment for Charging as a Service? The minimum monthly commitment is discussed and agreed upon during the onboarding process based on the resident’s typical usage. It is designed to reflect normal EV charging patterns — not an unreasonable threshold for any active EV driver.

Will adding chargers overload our building’s electrical panel? Not with EVEMS. Our load management system monitors available electrical capacity in real time and distributes power intelligently across all active chargers. In most cases, buildings can support significantly more chargers than they expect without any panel upgrade. We assess every building before installation and are transparent about capacity limits upfront.

What is the Clean Fuel Program and how do residents benefit? Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations require fuel producers to reduce the carbon intensity of their products. One way they meet this requirement is by purchasing credits generated by EV charging. EV Nook is registered under this program and passes a portion of the credits back to residents as a reduction in their per-kWh rate — effectively making every charge a little cheaper. No registration or action is required from residents.

How does 24/7 support work? Residents and strata managers can reach EV Nook support by phone, email, or chat at any time. Remote monitoring means our team is often aware of a charger issue before the resident reports it. All hardware faults, warranty claims, and technical issues are handled directly by EV Nook — the strata council is never in the middle of a support issue.
